ABSOLUTELY
10/1/2018 0 Comments Week of October 1-5Fall is here, it seems!
Hello, October! I can't believe we are into the sixth week of school, and it's already October! I must say, I'm truly enjoying our year together--I hope your child is too! Upcoming Events: Fund Run: Friday, October 5, is our annual "Fund Run" at Arrowhead. The fifth graders will be heading outside at 2:20 to participate in the fund run. Please make sure your child wears appropriate clothing and footwear for the event. Send in your donations too! Family Fun Night: This year, Family Fun Night is Friday, October 26. Our class is creating a "sleepover" themed basket for the silent auction! Please send in any items you think would be appropriate for a "sleepover" (boys OR girls). Items can be big or small, and there's no need to spend a lot of money. If everyone sends in a little something, we'll have a great basket! What's Happening? Math We are working this week on Order of Operations (you might hear the phrase, "Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally"), and we will be starting work on multi-digit multiplication using the standard algorithm. Please make sure your child is practicing his/her math facts every day at home for 10 minutes--it is part of their daily homework, and getting those facts mastered will make multi-digit multiplication go more smoothly, quickly, and easily. ELA We are learning about some inventions this week as we delve into some nonfiction text. We are also going to be writing narratives. We've been talking about how narratives must have a problem (or challenge) and a solution in order to be a great story. Social Studies We are learning about Creation/Origin Stories of the Crow and Northern Cheyenne people. After this, students will start studying a specific MT Tribal Nation. Science Students are working with Mrs. Eagle on plant parts and photosynthesis.
